Australia picks a legspinner

There is no surprise that on the day that my book comes out is the day Australia has picked a Victorian on debut and a leg spinner, even if he doesn’t play.

This is obviously Cricket Australia’s way of apologising for ripping off my idea.

It is not enough; I would have preferred Bryce McGain.

So am I happy with Andrew Hildtich plucking Smith from his inner bowels?

For

Australia has picked a leg spinner.

He can bat.

He is a wicket taker in limited overs cricket.

He is baby faced.

His name is easy to remember.

His recent form with the bat is pretty tasty.

He has real actual talent.

Moises Henriques will be mad.

Against

Hauritz’s average would laugh at his first class average.

Shane Warne said he should not be picked yet.

He is a batsman who bowls; best way to ruin him is to pick him as a bowler.

It is the Waca for fucks sake.

Jason Krejza invented a super duper mystery ball, and none of us get to see him bowl it live.

Last week he said he bowled bad because the ball was sticky.

He is from NSWales.

Now he has to meet Ricky Ponting.

Get my book, you know, if you want, no pressure.

The baby blues win Mott’s love

The Kiwi’s eventually lost their warm up game.

NSWales have only got first innings points from one game in the shield this year.

But they closed New Zealand out with their worst team in the year and their second youngest of all time.

You can’t help but think this result is going to be a lot more important for NSWales than New Zealand.

The Kiwis will go on to play a test match next week and wont care.

But for NSWales this game means quite a lot.

Moises Enriques finally stepped up with bat and ball.

Josh Hazelwood showed he can bowl.

Steven Smith took a few wickets and made a lot of runs.

And Phillip Hughes yet again tried to jump Shaun Marsh.

All these guys are 21 and under.

A gun opening batsman, a young tall quick, and two all rounders.

There aren’t many teams in the world that don’t want that sort of combination.

Bloody NSWales.

The Sheffield Shield, brought to you by a soggy breakfast: NSW

Time for my state cricket round up.

This may be the last year I can do one with any authority,

We’ll start wit the reigning champs.

NSWales, the speedblitz blues

Players that won’t be available for large parts of the season.

Bollinger, Bracken, Clark, Clarke, Haddin, Jacques, Katich, and Lee.

That is a fair list, and looking at the “a” team, there are a bunch more in the wings.

What have they got left, youth, youth, and yup, youth.

Last year I though there youth was ordinary and wouldn’t make much of a splash, they did, bastards.

The Reigning Shield Champions seem to have an uphill battle to do the same.

This year they will need that youth to kick on either further as Haddin, Katich and Bollinger will be available far less.

Leadership

Katich is a huge loss, not just for batting, but he was the steel, but the captaincy, when you have a young team you need a captain who can bring them together, but he will be there and thereabouts for Australia, and may miss large portions of the season.

Whoever has the captaincy for the games Katich is not available will be the key, I would say they would go with Thornely, Daniel Smith, Mail or Ed Cowan.

Bowling

With their top 4 bowlers all busy, Cameron and Henriques will have to take a lot of wickets.

Henriques is the highest rated young player since Michael Clarke, but so far he hasn’t done much other than look impressive.

Beau Casson will be trying to prove he is the number one spinner in Australia, which he isn’t, but with this bowling attack, he should get a lot of overs.

Batting

Hard to see where the runs are coming from. Mail, Cowan and Thornley are experienced, but none of these players are top flight state batsmen.

The class would appear to come from Hughes and Khawaja. Neither have the experience, but they do look like the way forward.

Khawaja will also provide Australian writers the opportunity to call him wristy which is nice.

Henriques, Casson and Steve Smith are all supposed to be all rounders, and they will have to make a few runs between them.

Long in the tooth

The Mail Man may be paying his last season. Should get a game for the first half of the year, but when the young bucks start circling, he is the one Matthew Nicholson and the other selectors may get rid of. Although Nicholson probably thinks 30 is young.

Ready to shed the nappies

Steven Smith is the highest rated youngster since Moises Henriques, sorry couldn’t help myself. Played in a few 2020 games last year and tripped over wickets with his leg spin. He may be the Cameron White, Cameron White never proved to be, a genuine top six batsman who can bowl.

Nostradamus

Shield

3rd to 4th.

One dayers

2nd to 3rd.

2020

Last, they never take this shit seriously.

The rub

They is young, and held in high regard, but can they play?

The Ryan Gosling side

kittens mauled by virgins

Bangladesh is in Australia.

And so far this is no golden reunion tour for Jamie Siddons.

The kittens have been playing the Australian academy XI.

3 losses and one victory is probably not what you need before playing Australia, even if it’s A list players are all having a holiday.

The academy side is a team of youngish blokes who at best are fringe state players, and at worst are under 19 Australian representatives.

Some of these players have already done well domestically with limited opportunities.

Here are there stories…

Matthew Wade (19) Vic– Leap frogged Crosthwaite for Victoria’s keeping job, but his batting fell away at the end of the year and his glove work always made me nervous. Can bat, but is treacle like.

Moises Henriques (21) Nsw– Like Shane Watson, only could be the real deal. Already has selectors with erections everywhere. No one can tell if he is a bowler or a batsman, and not in the crap way like most all rounders. Is the 438th New Keith Miller.

Peter Forrest (22) Nsw – top order batsman already on the tour for Australia A, I’m not a huge fan, but the right people seem to be.

Theo Doropoulos (23) Wa – Hard hitting middle order player who has already made an impact or two at the top level already. Can bowl medium pace as well, but it’s the hitting that people have noticed. Also has a great name for commentators.

Usman Khawaja (21) Nsw – Against Victoria in full flight made a 90 odd on debut in a tight contest. So far against Bangladesh he has made them his bitches. Born in Pakistan, raised in Australia.

Liam Davis (24) Wa – Made a hundred on debut to stop Douggie Bollinger from a complete decimation of WA this year. Looks like a standard nuggety West Australian type batsman, see Justin Langer, or Greg Shipperd.

Steven Smith (19) Nsw – Should be ready to take over from Bryce McGain as Australian leg spinner in 3 years time. Also can bat, in 3 boiwls in the 2020 took 9 wickets. I give him the Jrod early seal of approval, bu reserve the right to revoke at any time.

That is just the players who have played at the top level.

There is also Michael Hill (19), from the northern suburbs of Melbourne.

He has yet to play for Victoria, but is tearing Bangladesh apart at the moment.

And being that he is from the northern suburbs predicting that he will become a champion is a easy prediction.

There are also other players yet to play at the top level, who aren’t from the northern suburbs.
