Cricket The St Trinian’s Way

In the end, it was like one of those old school movies. No, not crap like High School Musical, but really old stuff, in black and white and featuring the likes of Will Hay. Alistair Sim or the St Trinian’s Girls.

England played the part of the miscreant students, South Africa that of the mortarboarded masters. You know how the script goes. The pupils put one over on the masters once, have a couple of narrow escapes along the way, but ultimately end up receiving a sound thrashing.

None of which will deter them from bullying the smaller kids of Bangladesh and thinking they are cock of the walk again, sadly.

What Annoys Me About England’s World Cup Win

Is that you know what is going to happen next.

If the men had won the World Cup – either version – it would be front page news, lead item on every bulletin and, like after the 2005 Ashes, honours and sponsorship deals all round.

That same year, England’s women won their version of the Ashes, too. It made some early evening news bulletins and that was it. They’d waited almost 20 years longer than the men to regain them and what happened? Captain Claire Connor got a medal and they were graciously permitted to share a bus around town behind the men’s one. Everyone and everything else was ignored.

I just know that the same will happen again – only without the bus ride. So much for sex equality.
