Lalit get’s something right

I doubt Lalit and I would ever be friends.

He probably wants to kidnap me, burn me, and then snort my ashes.

And I want to dip his testicles in slow burning acid while playing him the go chargers song.

You can say what you want about him (asshole, potential fraudster, charlatan, kidnapper, cancer magnate, or runny anal discharge), but you can’t call him stupid.

His handling of the ICL’s demise was perfection, “sure you can come back now they can’t pay you, you just have to apologise to us and go sit in the corner”.

And now he has made another great decision, letting the players pick which team they want to play for in the champion’s league. (thanks to the heretic for the link)

Genius, let the domestic franchises and the players decide.

At least half of them are going to end up in their IPL sides, probably more, and Lalit looks like a nice guy.

We know he isn’t, last year he fought like a hungry dog for the clause that said the IPL has the right to their players first.

For a team like Otago, a guaranteed 250,000usd is probably their best way forward.

For Victoria or the Cape Cobras, who both have serious line ups and real chances of winning, why would they take the 250,000usd, when with Gibbs or Dirty Dirk they might be able to win the whole 3 million.

The IPL sides are still going to be the favourites in the tournament, no other team has that quality of International players to choose from, and they get to play the series at home.

If every team loses one big name import, it won’t be the end of the world.

And Lalit wins, again.

Livestock

Sportsfreak just alerted me to this interesting article.

It is all about the champion’s league, and what is going on with the players.

Delhi, who have made it through as the Pakistanis have been assholed, want David Warner.

Fair enough.

They have to pay NSWales 250,000 USD.

NSWales realised this might be a problem, and they are taking their superhero out of the plastic and handing the 250,00o USD onto Otago for Prince Brendon.

Otago hasn’t decided whether to give up Brendon yet.

But NSWales have no choice in the Warner decision, as Lalit has it in the contract (now, after forgetting that last time).

I am not a fan of the IPL sides getting their imports automatically, I have no problem with the sides being offered the cash, and then making the decision.

This merry go round and the 250,00 could keep going: Warner to Delhi, McCullum to NSWales, Mascarenhas to Otago, Imran Tahir to Hampshire, AB DeVilliers to Titans, and Elvis Presley to the Delhi…

Bushrangers take on pink men

The Champions league thingy is just around the corner.

Near the tube I guess.

And I was feeling a little under whelmed about it.

But now I am fully whelmed.

Victoria has drawn Middlesex in the opening rounds.

The Champions league thingy is just around the corner.

Near the tube I guess.

And I was feeling a little under whelmed about it.

But now I am fully whelmed.

Victoria has drawn Middlesex in the opening rounds.

That’s right kiddies, Dirty Dirk up against the men in pink.

Ben Scott facing the thunderbolts.

Tim Murtagh dodging the verbal bullets.

And Shaun Udal looking old.

This should be great.

Dirty Dirk must be dribbling blood in anticipation.

Victoria also play Pretoria, and Chennai.

But Dirty Dirk never played for them.

This is like the Stanford series, except with players and teams that people really like.

I am not sure if Victoria or Victoria A (Rajasthan) is ranked best domestic 2020 side in the world, but i think they are one, two.

Middlesex is way below that, and wouldn’t have won the 2020 championship if not fir Dirty Dirk.

And everyone knows this.

I heard a whisper one that Dirk wheres around a t shirt that says “I saved the pink me”.

But i have never seen any evidence of this.

for money or love

The Chennai Superkings are like Santa Claus.

They give and they give.

According to VB Chandrasekar Dhoni “might” make himself unavailable for the Champion League due to test commitments.

He also said

“More weightage should be given to Indian team,”

Ofcourse we all know the Dhoni doesn’t really rate test cricket, but with all this weightage for India perhaps he will change his mind.

Is this really even a story, was there ever a slight chance that Dhoni might pick the Superkings over playing for his country?

We aren’t at the point yet, well unless you’re a kiwi.

Whether he ever would have picked the Sooper dooper kings is unlikely, but did the thought ever cross his mind?

Maybe?

For a second or two?

Perhaps?

Probably…

Champions League – exciting or meh? I just don’t know what to think

Just in time to raise the stakes for the English Twenty20 cup, a Twenty20 superleague has been announced, to take place in the Middle East or India, in September / October this year.

This will be for the top two domestic teams from each of England, Australia and South Africa, plus the IPL finalists.

Teams we already know will be there:

Western Australia
Victoria
Rajasthan Royals
Chennai Superkings
Dolphins (Natal)
Titans (Northern Transvaal)

Jrod is a bit meh about this. I was initially quite excited, because I’m the kind of person who gets excited over being given a free pen on a plane. I thought it would be cool to see, for example, Shane Warne leading the Rajasthan Royals against the Vics, and to see Bryce spin it to the likes of MS Dhoni.

However, just like that song they used to play during the mystery guest round in “A Question Of Sport”, there really are more questions than answers.

How are the player conflicts to be resolved, where a player could play for more than one team? (I’m hoping for rock, paper, scissors).

Where the flip is everybody else? the Lankans, the Windies, the Pakistanis, the Kiwis? And, for that matter, the Indian domestic non-IPL teams. It’s such a wierd mix, having some domestic teams and then the IPL teams. It’s not comparing like with like.

What is this FOR? A champions league in football (I mean soccer, Aussies) is one thing, where the rules on international players are very, very different to cricket. One reason for directly comparing football teams is to compare the playing standard across different countries, which plays a part in the transfer market.

Is it just for the fun? And will the raised stakes make the current English Twenty20 cup less fun?

The money. Ah, the money. The prize money for the winner is $USD5million. It makes the English Twenty20 prize money look like the spare change you find at the bottom of your handbag.

Today I watched Giles Clarke being interviewed and he said that a player that turned down a central contract would not be able to join the new superleague, to prevent them from forum-shopping.

So, it’s ok to play for a big-money prize so long as you yourself haven’t actively chosen to chase the money.

Like I said, more questions than answers.
