Important facts (opinions) about the first test.

Mitchell Johnson and Phil Jacques can play at this level.

The New Australian bowling attack is good. It can take 20 wickets in a match, whilst enforcing the follow on, even on the flattest deck this side of an 8 year old girl.

Marvin is angry, and you wont like him when he’s angry (if you’re wearing an official Sri Lankan tie that is).

Brett Lee is ready for test cricket. Only took him 8 years.

Silva is a gun (See below).

Not picking Malinga makes you a muppet.

Murali troubles the Australians, but how many wickets did he get, and don’t give me the sh1t about the wicket not being in his favour, the ball was spinning sideways the whole match.

Vaas is now a better batsman than a bowler.

Tony Greig is still perverted.

King Probot Hussey is back in form.

Roy is here to stay.

David Hussey’s campaign is running smoothly, which is good for him, cause there aint a spot for him opening up.

Hi Ho

I don’t know much about this Chamara Silva chap, but I like what I see.

He is a cricketer. Tom Moody saw it straight away.

In the first test against the Aussies he was the only batsman that dictated to Australia.

Marvin blocked, Sanath swung away, and Bambi (Vandoort) grafted.

Silva batted, if there was a bad ball it went to the ropes.

Remember back in day when people who played attacking cricket were thought of as batsmen, not one day specialists.

I miss them, and I wasn’t even born then.

Short balls were pulled, full balls were driven, and straight balls were flicked.

He attacked without going nuts about it.

In both innings he was caught at third man for 40 odd, once oddly enough from a flick to the legside. That is a worry.

I hope he is persevered with, he has a good technique, great eye and is great to watch.

Add him to my list.

Definitely not a probot.

Session update day 5 – Lunch

Lets see session update, ummmm.

Silva looked good again. Boy can play, see the post I am yet to post.

Rick (y) is dragging Brett Lee towards a 5 wicket haul. Its very rare he gets 8 wickets in a match, so it’s obviously working.

The rest was all a bit academic. Lee and Clark bowled ok. Nothing special.

The Vics smoted (smoted is not a word, but I like it and I’m using it) tassie, that was fun.

Neil Harvey was on the cricket show, did his best not to say cricketers were better in my day.

He did say though that of all the modern cricketers he thought they could have used Shane Warne in the Invincibles. Apparently McGrath, Ponting, Hayden and Gilchrist weren’t better than Sam Loxton.

I’m killing time before I post this, cause lunch just finished and Murali is facing.

He played a beautiful backing away on drive for no run.

Session update day 3 – lunch

Ian Chappell has returned to his hobbyhorse about fast bowlers throwing the ball back and batsmen standing there and not getting out the way. I remember when I was 9 and I first heard that. Was it really only 18 years ago?

This Silva can bat, he plays attacking cricket and hits through the ball. However, the Aussies seemed to work him out precisely. A deep backward point 23.8 meters in from the rope. Seems like a nerdish coach spent 47 continuous hours watching replays before they worked that out.

Atapattu is old school. He is playing for time. While his teammates are struggling to keep anyone out, Marvin looks solid as a rock, doesn’t look like scoring, but solid, like a bus that can’t get out of second gear.

MacGill obviously rubbed up his team mates the wrong way, Gilly dropped a sitter, and Clarke dropped one he should have taken. Perhaps Stuey has been giving them dodgy stock market tips. He hasn’t bowled great regardless of that.

Johnson looks even more comfortable in 5 day cricket than he does in 1 day. Clark seemed to bowl a bit wide, and Brett Lee spent more time flogging his book than he did bowling.

3 more wickets this session for Australia. It’s starting to look a bit ugly for the Lankans. But Mahela is still thinking positively, his KPI’s are working for him.
