They say our ICC is dysfunctional, and it is. But today that dysfunction mixed with some over inflated self importance got rid of this vile mother fucker.
Yay for dysfunction.
Australia have already replaced John Howard in the squad with Stephen O’Keefe.

One of the most graceful days in the history of the disgraced ICC.
Does this mean Project Snow Part Deux? Hurray to that!!!
I mean it was FAIL from both side.
1) Why do you appoint a guy in the first where within country more than half of countrymen doesn’t like you !!
2) Why do you appoint a guy who have insulted legendary player publicly,
3) Why do you appoint a guy for whom some people think he was Bush man !!
4) Why do you appoint a guy who had sweet relation ship with two African nations
5) Why do you appoint a guy for whom more than half cricket loving people think he is racist
6) Why do you appoint a guy who will give you less matches to play, because he had no background
On other side
1) why don’t you appoint a guy to reconcile past mistakes and shack hands
2) why don’t you appoint a guy who will be there, who might have been symbol, that cricket forgives
My personal remarks: I don’t think Cricket would have been different, if he was appointed. However, marketing rights and public splitting/protest surely have done. I just hope by this decision Ind-Aus stop playing each other as often as they suppose to. By reading Jack Clarke’s response I think it might just kill few good cricket.
ICC’s decision was purely showing how important MARKET FORCE is in cricket.
He looks a little like Dick Cheney. They should have voted him in. He would’ve put in an extra clause in the FTP that all visiting countries can stay in the host nations long after the series is over.
I was reading your book on the Freddie to Jesus transmogrification during my recent trip to China, in flight. I thought your writing will be more fun than watching the flight map on “Air China”. There were so many parts that were belly bursting that I actually laughed out loud and got curious looks from people in my section of the plane.. I wanted to explain to them but language barrier was huge and I did not wanna get in to the whole “yeah, it takes 5 days to finish a game” routine. After a while, I just had to have this look on my face which you get while trying to suppress laughter (like you would on a perfectly good Sunday wasted at a church listening to some old balls pontificating about life and abortion to you), that people sitting next to me thought that I was having a stroke.
Thanks for the good times, mate! Fabulous work. Cheers!
Yes, this has nothing to with John Howard. So what?
Subash, Cheers mate. Will use the tag line, “When Freddie became Jesus, more entertianing thatn an Air China flight map” for the re-issue.
I don’t exactly feel jubilant about the outcome in its entirety. It is very short-sighted to only look at the aspect of his departure. Only a few people are considering the implications.
CA should have expected this and probably did. Makes you wonder.
And thank whatever deity you pray to that the ICC had the good sense, or the good dysfunction to reject this man. And why wouldn’t they. He has variously been associated with calling Murali a chucker, locking up innocent Indians such as Mohammed Haneef, failing to support sporting sanctions against apartheid South Africa, and calling for restrictions on immigration based on race. What a catch!
i’m not saying i’m a fan of howard in any sense, but surly a better reason than “umm..is that the phone?” is required for rejecting him. if africa wants him out because he is anti-mugabe, then GREAT! SAY SO. a little honesty will be refreshing. why the negative vote from asia? is it his support of darryl hair over the pakistan ball tampering incident, (ball tampering? pakistan? you’re joking right? not them) or his questioning over the murali bowling action, (never tested under match conditions, rules changed to allow him to bowl) or could it just be india behaving like spoilt little rich kids?
As an Indian, I want to say a few things. I do not like to brag about the fact that my country has a lot of influence on the ICC nor am I ashamed that we don’t have any power over FIFA etc. It’s just the way it is. However I am ashamed of the BCCI in general, and in particular regarding its support for Zimbabwe. I wish that Kumble, Sachin and Dravid move into administration and improve things. It is better to keep career politicians away from cricket. That brings me to John Howard.
As JRod says, the right decision was taken, reasons be damned. From whatever I have read, Howard comes across as a hardliner in every sense of the word – a Lalit Modi on steroids. On top of that, his record with respect to multiculturalism including Aborgines isn’t good enough to land an international role. As developed countries, ANZ has undoubtedly many good administrators who also know how to take people along. Is Howard the best ANZ can muster? I do not believe so.
Sorry for the typo I meant Aborigines.
OR CA did appoint him on purpose, because they knew India might reject him and now they have license to boycott BCCI’s request in future (which might just kill few good cricket Ind-Aus)
… I think it was bluff like you play in poker and now everyone bought it. Jack Clarke’s media response after rejection looks very scripted.
India has followed Pakistan and Lankans this time, that is clear business motive since Subcontinent is hosting world cup :D its simple.
so pleased about this. of course, the murdoch press here is having a big sook/’conspiracy’ about it. the look on howard’s face when he didn’t get it, and started clapping before he realised, was so satisfying. that he went to zimbabwe to try and lobby for the position, after ‘standing up’ to mugabe whilst he was pm, shows what a vile, shifty, and self-serving “man” he was and is.
