Daniel Vettori is considering another batting self-promotion – this time to the opening position.

Vettori has also made an application to the ICC to introduce the “Last Man Standing” rule for batting, so that he doesn’t need to rely on a batting partner anymore.

He has also asked for a dispensation to allow him to operate from both ends with the ball, so as to remove the need for other bowlers.

Finally, Vettori will also keep wicket when he gets tired of bowling. To cater for this revised role McCullum is going to become a specialist number 7 batsman, taking the gloves only when Dan is bowling (which will be often if the dual-end system is permitted).

To ensure hourly over-rates are kept in check, both players will field with wicketkeeping pads on.

As a result of these changes, the next New Zealand test lineup will consist of Vettori (c), McCullum (Part Time W/K) and 9 specialist fielders who will not be requried to bat or bowl.
