127

It seems about right.

Australia had gone four tests without a first innings collapse, that was never going to last.

That is all.

Think it was less of an Australian collapse, more of a Pakistan demolition job. Top stuff

  2. jrod says:

Pakistan bowled well, but if this was a demolition job, then the Australians are all co-conspirators.

  3. What made me laugh was the interview on the pitch with Ponting before the match started, when he claimed Australia had to put these collapses behind them and move on.

There was some good bowling and some awful shots from what I saw.

Yeah, Pakistan bowled well. But also, there was some pretty ordinary shots. In a score of 127 a/o, you either have a mine field or some ordinary batting.

Jacques Kallis showed how to play a proper innings when your side is in trouble against England earlier today.

Ganguly’s spirit has completely taken over Ponting. He seems to be everybody’s favorite ‘short-pitch’ bunny :P Hilarious the way he pulled the first ball he faced. Isnt he the same batsman who once pulled Shoaib Akthar’s 100mph ball for six?

    coinbox.

  5. Comicus says:

That was about as far from a Pakistani demolition as it is possible to be. Sure they bowled a good line and length generally, but it was not unplayable!

Sadly, only Watson fell to a really good ball that beat the batsman (who was playing an appropriate shot). Everyone else batted with no application or discipline. The Aussies looked like they thought it was going to be easy because they won the last test so easily. Seems they have a very short memory (looks like the Ashes all over again).

Yeah we won the last test by a lot of runs but our second innings was a debacle if you ignore Watson’s effort. It’s pretty sad when Watson is the standout!!!!! What does that say about the state of our team?

Hughes – terrible shot with no footwork….tried to get out first ball and failed – so much talent and potential but in this case was on a hiding to nothing because he was only ever going to be a fill-in for Katoosh, so a small score would allow his detractors to rip him to shreds and a big score would see him back in Shield cricket anyway…..it’s a lose/lose situation.

Ponting – shocking shot and showed he was not switched-on as the man was placed there for the shot….injured, should not be playing anyway

Hussey – terrible terrible shot. This is test cricket…..!!

Clarke – on the walk, batting like a millionaire. Sure it was a good ball but he could have blocked it out and waited for a different ball to hit

North – is it just me or is he looking decidedly average lately. Not a lot of footwork or getting in line with the ball. Should have been left alone through to the keeper.

Haddin – given the circumstances, not the shot to play. Sure he’s an attacking batsman but honestly, at 6 for 62 that’s just stupid…at least he could have played down the line of the ball rather than across it!

The rest are bowlers and I have no problem them having a swing….the batsmen let the team down again. It would be nice if someone showed some application (other than Watson) and stuck around through a but of swing and seam!

  6. alex says:

Ponting no longer have supporting cast. Attacking the first ball is not option anymore. Hughes is really unfit to play opening batsman. He was slogging , swishing every ball outside the off stump.

Without katich they do not have one person to hold one end. it exposed every one to new ball quickly.

i really think pitch helped sami and sami bowled only one ball. The way to make sami loose all his bearing is hit him few 4s. He is like sreesanth , once he gives 4 balls…he will contiue to hive 4 balls until he is taken out of the attack.

sami ‘s problem always mental. He is bowling fast and correct line and length. if he continue bowl like in second innings pak can win this test easily.

Ponting and hussey( ya probot) are test batting quality in any condition , rest can play in flat wickets not swinging wickets.

I really do not think aussie helped pakistan except one Hughes.

  7. Since it was Sunday, I could watch most tof the day’s cricket. Sami was great in his first spell. After that, itwas Asif all the way. He is trully the Mcgrath of this generation.

It was funny hearing Ian Chappell dissing Hawkeye for the not out decision in favour of North. There should be a higher margin for the “Umpire’s decision” ruling.

Australia batted badly one must say. Today in similar conditions, Pakistan could score 331. Ponting is becoming the targetof all fasties these days. Helps when the openers have not raped you in the start likewhen Hayden and Langer used to do.

  8. Joel says:

Dhananjay Mhatre – Asif is the “McGrath of this generation” – give me a frickin spell! He has only played 15 tests for goodness sake!!!!!!

  9. jogesh99 says:

Agree with Joel, Mcgrath was as boring a personality as was his up-and-down bowling (Robert’s description of Mcgrath) – he’s certainly no Asif off the pitch, thats for sure.

  10. jogesh99 says:

Er Joel, where do you rank Barry Richards as a batsman, may I ask?

  11. Vim says:

Punter’s mind was blown by the awesomeness of the ‘wicket has a lot of grass and the conditions are conducive for bowling’ decision to bat. He was so impressed by his own courage and his backing of his batting line-up that he got lost in the fantasy world of being 10 years younger than he is and swung for glory first up.

Pakistan bowled beautifully, but Haddin, Hughes and Punter were highly culpable. Looked to me like they were all no 10′s promoted unduly. Both Hughes and Haddin were BACKING AWAY from their stumps in seaming and swinging conditions to flay through the offside. If that is not asking for it what is?

Still the bowling was so good by Mr Asif that they may have all just gone the Clarke way anyhow.

  12. Yo Joel. Asif in his frickin 15 tests has much better bowling figures than Mcgrath in his first few matches.
Forget the dope issues, anyone following his career will say that he is a special talent.

  13. Vim says:

Cricket Bettingg Blog, did he really say that? Then put that bunch of seam and swing traumatics into bat in those overhead conditions and with that wicket? Perhaps he has become all post-modern on us and sees everything as ironic.

Shit, that’s funny. The delusions in the camp are growing by the minute. The loss of the this game and I am sure it will be a loss unless the Pakistan team really lose the plot (not impossible I know), will be blamed on the bowlers. It always is.

  14. 127! Hard to believe. Why are Australia so strong in 50 over cricket and so up and down in test matches?!!

  15. @Cricket Equipment – Simple. ODIs protects batsmen with amaemic pitches. Wherever there has been some life in the pitch, thecurrent crop of Aussie batters get some mental block and play under their potential.

  16. Yawn says:

Time for another Warne/Flintoff/Botham/Waugh Sr to save Australian cricket (and world cricket). Irrespective of whether they win/lose they need to seriously play some entertaining cricket! Wtf are Watson/hussey/north/haddin/ doing in the team! They are more boring to watch than South Africa ;) If they continue till next season, I am sure hardly anyone will tune into Boxing Day test/SCG/Wacca/any match played in Aus.

    coinbox.

  17. It was incredibly green for a Sydney wicket. Looked more like Headingly, in March.

  18. Wasim says:

It’s also been four matches since Australia lost a test match so if one uses your brilliant logic then Pakistan are going to win this one quite comfortably.

  19. Wasim says:

Oh my bad, let me rephrase it Australia’s winning streak was never going to last they had to lose this one.

  20. Leg Break says:

Ponting proved his weakness for auto-pilot decision making again.

When you win a toss the first things you do is to look up (even if that means exposing bald spot), then look down.

On Sunday, looking up, showed big thick rain clousds. You bowl. Looking down showed a lot of grass; you bowl.

But years and years of listening to the Chappells etc going on about “Always bat first” and you bat.

    Funny stuff.

  21. alex says:

Why do you people not ready to admit aussie team is not good?. I do not think toss affected the game anyway.

it is just that aussie team can play well only if opposition play bad. if opposition play well , aussies get exposed for not getting theri bowling and batting correct. Too many holes in batting and bowling. It will take a while to get back to top.

Before aussie play well even opposition is pretty good. Now things changed.

It is not ponting’s fault. Captain is as good as his team is except dravid or sehwag both sucked in captaincy. Dravid was timid in captaincy and sehwag do not like people management. it is a burden for sehwag.

  22. @Vim, yes, he definately said it. He was on the pitch under an umbrella with Mark Nicholas and (I think it was also) Shane Warne being interviewed, while it was raining before the toss.

Interview was shown on Sky Sports in the UK.

  23. Samir Chopra says:

Pakistan will lose by about 35 runs. Collapsing from 205-2 has lost this game for them. Thats mah call, and I’ll stand by it. In any case, Sami is due to return to the form that makes him a bowler with a 50 average.

  24. Left Arm Seamers Club Member says:

Wow! What a suprise the house of cards falls once more. Without the only genuine man in the batting team (Katich) the children (despite half of them being well over 30) are about as strong of mind as the Italian Army in North Africa.

It makes me sick to see twatto dominating and i cried for an hour when he got dropped on 99, but credit where its due he’s going pretty well and yes he was the only one to get a geniune jaffer on the day. And I should know I’m from the LASC and thats what we do.

There are blokes playing Sub-Districts 4ths at Broadmeadows who are quicker then Asif so how does he get 6 for??? Time for the selectors to go back to the well. I’m over Hussey (he was batting ok but what was that pull shot?), North is struggling and rarely bowls (lets get hodgey back from retirement!!!), Haddin appears to have the intellect of grapefruit, and clarke needs to get dropped so he pulls his head in and banned from getting rubbish ink on his arms. Could we maybe naturalise BraVo???

And did I read Ponting is the most succesful captain ever? How Ironic….. or Moronic

  25. Samir Chopra says:

Right. Well, my prediction looks like its gone down the tube as Aus stagger to 255-7. Nice collapse.
.-= Samir Chopra´s last blog ..The door is ajar =-.

  26. Jumper says:

    Ah….256/7…’tis almost within our grasp…

dare we dream? I believe it juuust might be safe to do so….

    oh Thankyou Thankyou Kindly Punter……

  27. Joel says:

How can you judge anyone on less than 20 tests – and that includes Richards.

Does anyone remember what King Probot Hussey’s average was in the first 12 months – 80-odd – surely that puts him above Richards. Oh wait… he’s been fighting for his career the last 12 months…

    FORM IS TEMPORARY…..CLASS IS PERMANENT

  28. Y’know, it was kind of like watching the Black Caps bat ;-)

(Sorry J-Rod – but as a Kiwi cricket fan I think I can speak with authority on this one)

  29. @Joel – The important part is “first 12 months”
Asif has had 5 years behind him. His Test tally is rubbish becaause of the dope issues and the fuckall Test itinery of Pakistan. In five years his bowling could have been sorted out especially considering his 130 km. speed. Not done yet. Not saying that he will never be found out. However consider his mode of attack- Probing line and length with subtle changes. His dismissal of Clarke in the first innings was a thing of beauty.
