Hewy,

The atmosphere at the University Oval in Dunedin a couple of Saturdays ago was quite special. When the crowd is close even 3000 drunk people can create a bit of feeling.

Ritz yet again choked on a pitch that suited him - a recurring them throughout his career starting from his debut test.
Krejza is some way from playing, though. Maybe Sydney.
Interesting to see how the fast bowlers pull up, with the Siddle and Hilfie injuries. McKay is some chance. Oh Dirty Dirk, why are you injured at a time like this?
Alternatively, if Siddle and Hilfie are both fit - does Ritz get dropped?

Hilditch also needs to pull out the shotgun, put the screen up in front of Hussey and do what needs to be done - it's the only humane thing to do. The lack of any obvious replacement means that it won't happen (or maybe a WACA retirement annoucement??????)

So, next week on the traditional test match commencement day of a Wednesday, I'm looking forward to sitting on plastic chairs surrounded by concrete directly in the sun on a 38degree day drinking shit beer at the WACA whilst wistfully thinking wouldn't it be far nicer sitting at a ground like the University Ground in Dunedin watching test cricket.

Jogesh, I think they were trying for a win, Katich and Ponting didn't go down bunting. Every batsman up until North came in and tried to get the scoring rate up, but it never lasted. The last chance they had was going to be launching an attack after tea, and instead they lost 2 quick wickets and were never going to go for it 5 down with that many to chase. Credit has to go to the Windies though. Benn was impossible to score off. Rampaul and Bravo kept the ball moving enough to cause problems. And Gayle's fields were well suited to the pitch. There is a reason teams struggle to chase at Adelaide.

Jrod,
Ok, i dint see, it, just folllowed the commentary on cricinfo. So do you feel it was justified not trying for a win at all, and risking being bundled out anyway? Sure, they are 1 up, but this is the fearsome Windies we are talking about, and this isn't the Aussie way we've come to admire and hate at all - they would, in fact, turn draws into wins till even 3 years ago.

dasw, the Aussies are scared these days, much as I find it depressing to write. With their recent history of poor quality bowling mixed with regular batting collapses, it is understandable.

Look at Punter and Hussey in the middle order, neither of them are in good nick. Hussey still looks like he is facing judgement day, not going out to bat and so the rest of the team, can be very shaky at times.

They are not that good anymore.
