He is neither a Test bowler or test batsman. Sanga likes him because no one else there. Mahroof is better bowler and his batting is slog.

Alex, Mathews is more a batsman than a bowler. Perhaps Maharoof’s bowling is marginally better, but he’s nowhere near Angelo when it comes to batting. Mathews scored heavily in 2008/09 domestic season, and then had a very impressive Sri Lanka A tour to South Africa last year. He’s a very good batsman and I think in another three to four years time he’ll be one of the main batsmen in SL lineup.
