At some point in your action, you actually have to rotate your wrist so that the thumb is on top and the fingers are below – otherwise your arm can’t rotate properly.
Bowlers who bowl with a straight arm do this wrist rotation on or before the arm swings past the hip. If you do it any later than that then you will tend to throw the ball.
