During the L Ron Stanford Super Series thing, one man stood out as a captain, a leader, and someone with a level of proper dignity in him that seemed so removed from the rest of the circus.
His name was Daren Ganga.
While Gayle behaved like a spoilt stepson of a millionaire, and KP like a pretentious old school English wanker, Ganga seemed to accept the series for what it was to Trinidad and Tobago, a chance to earn some money and get some national pride.
They went within one run of England in one of their warm ups, and then in the final T&T restricted Middlesex to 117 and got the runs at the start of the last over with 5 wickets in hand.
In neither game did Ganga make any runs.
As a batsman he is hardly favoured by the nature of 2020 cricket, but as a captain he was a golden god.
He seems to have a natural understanding of cricket, he gets the most out of his players, and makes the tough calls when he has to.
Myself and my occasional Guyanese taxi driver always bond over our love of his captaincy.
In the Champion’s league he has just increased my man love for him.
Now that the West Indies board and the WIPA have decided to settle their differences, they must stop wasting time on captains who do not know how to do the job, or just don’t want to do it.
Ganga is the man for West Indies cricket.
If they give the captaincy to anyone else, they are just wasting their time.
Obviously in this tournament I want Victoria to win, but if T&T do win, I can’t say I’d be any happier than if Victoria win it.
Here is this small domestic team taking on the world cricket’s millionaires, and so far, winning.
Only Dwayne Bravo is a certainty for the Windies, and yet they have beaten the import heavy Somerset, and now the IPL winning Deccan Chargers.
They have spirit, they have belief, and they have Daren Ganga.
I want the Windies to have this as well.
Fuck I want everyone to have it, right now I would vote Daren in as world supreme leader.
Go T&T, take them all down.
He’d be an excellent choice for captain of the test team. And he’d really care about it and be proud to have the job.
I don’t even mind him as a batsman in test cricket. He never scores any runs but he takes hours about not scoring them and there are enough buccaneers to fill in the gaps in the Windies team already.
DG has captained West Indies before, back in 2007, after Sarwan was injured. Not sure but I think he lost all the Tests.
As a Delhi man I suppose I should support the Daredevils but I honestly don’t care. The only time I am really enthusiastic about Delhi is when they are playing Mumbai. It is hard to work up a really good hate against NSW, or Somerset, or the Cape.
Ganga didn’t exactly shine when he filled in for Sarwan in 2007. However, there’s a big difference between leading a side like T&T, when you are playing for national pride and all members of the same nation, and playing for the Windies where, uniquely, you are more akin to a club side than a nation. If you inspire people by making them have pride, you won’t win over most of the West Indian team. If, however, you inspire them by wanting to make money, you should be a shoe in for the side, whether you can hold a bat or not
Shiv was crap as a captain, but he was another who had it forced on him and they were a real shambles at that time.
The West Indies hardly ever win test matches, I don’t think you can necessarily blame the captain and you might as well give it to someone who will want it.
Reifer looked like he really cared about the team winning, and his bowlers did their utmost in the CT and yet they lost every game. Does that make him a poor captain?
Reifer is in an interesting position. He HAS to win, because he’s arguably one of two players in that side who are not Test class (the other being Dowlin).
The party line is ‘Oh, poor West Indies’, but these guys are fringe players for the Test side. They ought to start winning, now that they have some international experience. I think Reifer knows that.
As juvenile as it is I can’t stop chuckling every time I see that two options for West Indies captain have surnames which are slang for marijuana… it has a ring of fate to it. The Rasta population will be proud.

Hey i was thinking same line after watching the game between T&T vs Deccan. He is the reason T&T won. He was keep changing and trying everyway. He was trying to keep opposition batsman unsettled with changes.
He got the captain’s brain.
West Indies should make him non playing captain. Ha.
Can he Bat?. I never seen him score anything when he got selected.
I am impressed with darren ganga captaincy!. It is bubbly,
EVen gilchrist noticed it.
It is like nothing to lose but with clever chess moves and see opposition wilt under pressure.
My prediction is T&T can win if they can score some runs. Ganga can manage his resources of bits and pieces players.
Delhi rely on sehwag. Once he is gone , there is nothing there. Just procession follow up.
Victoria rely on harwood(very clever with his variations). I don’t think mckay or spinner dude any good. it is just that victoria has a descipline.
Royals are very good but kumble is ok captain. if Royals had dhoni captain they would be called superstars to superstar team. Kumble makes the team just lower than its worth.
It is basically who can make use of resources well at the right time.
it is mainly 2 way between royals vs T&T i think.
Victoria will succumb to Royals today.
if Royals had dhoni captain they would be called superstars to superstar team. Kumble makes the team just lower than its worth.
Dhoni’s team didn’t even qualify to play, and the RCs started winning only after Kumble took over from KP.

Same spelling but different pronunciations! The second ‘g’ in the drug is pronounced as a ‘j’.
Ganga is also the name of the holiest river in India revered by almost all Hindus in the world. I hope the trolls do not catch hold of this.
Pollard can be his goon to help him stay as World Leader. Scary, scary Keiron.
My boys are looking good! Go, T&T! We’re so proud of them! :)
Never paid much attention to him when he played for WI and didn’t even know he was the captian of T&T. Definitely surprised to see what a charismatic leader he is. The cameras even never leave him for long. Really hopes he buckles down on his batting, he can only be a positive addition to the West Indies team.

Nice work, Homer.
Cheers UJ :)
