If New Zealand is to hold onto this match that is how it should be remembered.
Jesse owns Napier at the moment.
Double ton.
Innings defining wicket.
Screamer of a catch.
India have not played well.
Jesse is one hell of a roadblock to get around.
There are already certain sections of India that are blaming the team, and screaming for Dhoni to come back.
That is fine, but India have won their last two series, and before Jesse stood up looked like winning this series 4 nil, which was mathematically impossible.
Sometimes players carry their teams along with them.
Rydermania is contagious, like syphilis.
New Zealand might still be missing a couple of test standard bowlers, but they have hoisted themselves onto the impressive frame of Jesse Ryder and are riding him to one all.
I do love a renegade hero
India are not beaten yet….
well…they have to beat india first. i hope the boys realise that this is a wonderful opportunity to pad up the CVs and batting averages.
india still need a 3rd seamer and a proper spinner. harby getting outbowled by jeet patel is tragic.
Sunny & Rob, I believe the first line starts with, If New Zealand…
@jrod – but the headline said “the test that jesse won”… ; )
@Sunny – “The Test (If New Zealand manage to win) that Jesse won”. Does not have a good ring to it. :)
“The Test (If New Zealand manage to win) that Jesse won”.- Just doesnt roll off the tongue does it.
We gotta start coming up with lines to finish “Jesse Ryder, so fat,…” ala ‘Your mama’ is so fat
just shut up. i sooo wished they´d win. but since you jinxed him, he´s even lost his bowling magic, and won´t surprise gotham and the doofus.
jesse the part timer.
a fascist draw is all there will remain .
it´s all quite depressing.
jrod, nice attempt to deflect blame – if India lose and GOD loses a test as captain thereby strenghening the Dhoni fairytale – then we know who is to blame…
Well I think India will save the test after watching today’s play.
Sehwag’s captaincy has been pathetic. First time it made me think Dhoni may be a good captain after all. So far I thought his luck was just real good.
Sehwag’s running between the wickets is even worse. I know he can hit big shots consistently but if he knows he cant run between wickets and is super slow in reacting to fielding and catching, shouldn’t he be working on it? A true champion is the one who tries to imrpove all the time and work on any weakness that the opposition can explore.
@rayden – india’s skill levels are dropping fast. catches are not being taken (slips cordon is a shambles), running between wickets is poor (sehwag, laxman etc) and the less spoken about the backup provided by karthikk (or however he effing spells his name these days) the better.
Sunny, LOL on Karthicque(no kidding, he once spelt it that way!). You forgot Yuvraj – seems like Pietersen was right after all, this guy is just not worth his place in the team. I know he scored something in the 2nd Inns but I dont feel that he is test material – the way he let his team down in the 1st Inns was DineshKarthik-an in nature. Dump both of them – why not try M Vijay in the third test? And please bring in Amit Mishra – he is better bowler than Bhajji, no matter what occasional 6 fors and 9-fors from Bhajji indicate.
@raj – yuvi has issues with his technique and will never be consistent against the better sides. but he will be given a run now for a while i think. i hope vijay doesn’t get shafted like others in the past. they gave him a cap but he might not see any cricket for a while. indian selectors have a short memory. even rohit sharma needs to be part of the setup. laxman and dravid will be two openings in the middle order and we still don’t know who is the next in line.
agree on harby and amit simply because break-leg bowlers are sexier. and we already have a better offie in sehwag. he even gives it a bit of flight instead of bowling yorkers! as for backup keepers, are there any standouts in india right now? i will keep an eye out in IPL 2.0 for one. irfan, where art thou?
Backup keepers – pretty bad scene – it is so bad that the next in line is Parthiv Patel!
Otherwise, Wriddhiman Saha looked promising during the IPL but hasnt done much since.
For my money, it is Shreevats Goswami of RCB – he looked poised in his outings in IPL both in batting and keeping. Let’s see if he develops well – atleast he is in good hands, I trust Rahul Dravid to groom cricketers well no matter what his captaincy image is.
