The fact that their second most important section is a cricket section is hardly a good enough reason for me to spend time on another headline aggregator. And anyway if there are enough people promoting cricket on reddit and digg then I’m quite certain they’d create the categories there as well, in which case overnight this site would be dead, right?

Whats important to me is how they build on the previous site… are they innovative, have they built new ways of dealing with the common problems user generated content sites have, are their built in mechanisms to deal with “bury” (btw your guy needs to check if he’s infringing on digg’s trademark by using that) brigades etc etc… because in the end thats whats going to ensure that a site like this survives and thrives.

I haven’t seen that on Punditit, I’ve seen a pretty sloppy mechanism for getting articles to the front page and there is no blog that would explain to someone like me why they are different. There’s lots to say about the site that I will not, because I understand that the guy has helped you out and so you’re trying to return the favor (or something).

But I just think in the long term, the companies that have employed people specifically to deal with the plethora of issues that arise with these kinds of websites, are the better bets when it comes to getting the sports/cricket community involved in submissions and discussions, than start-ups struggling to create their own community. Merely cutting down the categories and using an existing framework (or worse on one that is less sophisticated) doesn’t really seem to have any benefit in my opinion.

So all I’m trying to do is bring up a general point here, nothing personal against anyone, which is why I asked in my first comment if there was a specific reason you’d recommended this site. If I don’t like I won’t use it, and if it grows, good for them.

I ain’t no expert on the technical stuff, but this site looks ok. It’s a sport site, not a everything site like Digg. Cricket is listed on it’s homepage as the second sport, it’s not hid in the other sports section like on some of the others. Cricket won’t have to struggle to get to the front page, like it would at other sites. If you have facebook you don’t have to even join it, and you can publish the links you have punditited on your facebook profile all in one click.

And unlike theroar, who have generally ignored this site even though I am Australian, the guy from punditit contacted me, and went out of his way to help in technical problems and seemed like a good bloke.

So the message here is, don’t try and bully me or suck up to me when sending an email, just be honest and personal and if i like your site, you’ll get a post.
