Mahela quits, no really

Mahela Jayawardene is a monumental wanker, or a liar.

Who quits the captaincy so another captain can get ready before a world cup?

Dump the one day job, but at 31, with a batting average of 64 as captain and a recent win over India, why the fuck would you give up the job?

Idiot.

Tosser.

Fucktard.

You have the most important job in your country.

You are 31.

You are widely liked (not by me, but by many Sri Lankans, and Peter Roebuck).

You have a 63% win loss ratio, surely that craps down the throat of any other Lankan captain.

And you have given that all up.

Why?

it can’t be because of the world cup, or your one day form, so we want the truth Mahela, because either you are a wanker, or this is a stinking pile of shit.

the series against india highlighted Sri Lanka’s stagnation since their wonderful performances at the cup.

losing that badly must have been extremely embarassing

he knows that Kumar’s destiny is beckoning.

who is he to stand in the path of such a king.

Now behind the scenes Drama– How did this unfold Jaya !! There is definitely lots happenin.. atleast more than wat we are aware of.. u must be the idiot of the first order to giv up the post .
I wasn a very big fan of the idea, tat u will be the capt of the Lankans in 2k + 6. But ever since u have made me bite dust for that.. amazing record to follow tat, and improved player by miles..
11 test centuries and 4 in the ODI’s speaks in great merit ! and averages as mentioned by J. But perhaps the last few clashes .. losing to Ind 1-4 and 4 ducks in a row against b’deshi sisters and Zim ! Now tat must hurt !! Not much to boast about in the ODI’s with PAK and IND too.

I believe the team has grown in yr presence, gettn the SPIRIT OF CRICKET award “twice” I do understand Kumar is eligible … but in 2011 he is not the youngest pair of legs the Lankans wanna ride upon ! if u must concentrate on ur batting a bit more, then i don c why the team must lose their Marshall in Chief ! very well jaya … will be waiting for ur reply !

p.s = let me kno if the board of Cricket in SL has somethin to do with this !! bunch of Goons .

How hard is it captaining Sri Lanka anyway?

OK, the batting’s pretty brittle, but there’s not much you can do about that.

And when you’re bowling, find someone starting with M and give him the ball.

Like the good ol’ days of Shane / Glenn Aussie captaincy.

A year and half ago, a sub-continental captain gave up captaincy to focus on his batting. He is barely hanging on as a batsman in the team now.
(BTW, I am a great fan of Rahul Dravid)

Blimey, just think what you would be like if he did something wrong…

This has nothing to do with Mahela but I thought all Sehwagologists might be interested in knowing he is getting a hair transplant:

Since 1994-ish Sri Lanka seem to have more or less followed a course of improvement then stagnation then improvement again. Not so much two steps forward one step back, as two steps forward then pause for a bit. Perhaps Mahela is of the view that it is time for the next Great Leap Forward.

From an outsiders perspective Mahela strikes me as a quiet insular self-absorbed sort of bloke – a great batsman, but maybe as a captain he’s the sort of guy to fly in a holding pattern.

Sangakkara on the other hand strikes me as a very bright, charismatic sort of guy who could inspire that next step. He has said some very interesting things in the past few months about the value ‘unique’ players (those with their own style) of whom Sri Lanka have plenty, and whom could finally fulfill Sri Lanka’s destiny of one day being the best Test side in the world.

Ned, I’m not saying Kumar wouldn’t do a great job, he is the king, my question is why Mahela would give up the job at 31, what sort of a person gives it up.

I captained the rep side once. I won the toss and bowled in 40 degree heat, mainly because I thought we needed the work. The team rebelled big-time, and we lost (although possibly only because I dropped a sitter at point – which didn’t help me at all!) I decided after that game that I didn’t really want to be captain after all.

Not everyone wants to lead, Jrod.
