Dhoni takes nap

MS Dhoni has now officially been rested from test matches.

There are so many issues at play here.

Does India take test match cricket seriously?

Does Dhoni take test match cricket seriously?

Should Dhoni be a) stoned, b) beheaded or c) burnt at the stake?

Is Sri Lanka thought of as a second tier opponent?

Does Dhoni only want to play if he is captain?

Is Dhoni giving Kartik a fair chance at replacing him?

Did Dhoni eat his own testicles at a bizarre Mongolian ceremony last week?

Is Dhoni the first victim of the IPL schedule?

Does Dhoni see captaining India in one day cricket as more important than playing test match cricket?

The answers to these questions are obviously not, fuck no, c, derr, fuck yes, probably, uhuh with a creamy mushroom and bison nut sauce, nope just a wanker, hell yeah.

If Dhoni is pulling out because of too much cricket, perhaps he should skip the IPL next year and give himself 6 weeks off.

Or perhaps he should go make some Bollywood films and leave cricket to the men who really care about it.

I think Hayden was the 1st victim of the IPL. Though he played only 4 games but the injury was sustained during his stint with Dhoni’s team..As for Dhoni. He has shown where his priorities lie.On the other hand the IPL could also be perceived as a career-maker rather than a breaker – see Watson for proof.

  2. Kym says:

Is this the first instance of a player not even pretending to value test cricket above the other forms?Dhoni’s one of the game’s powerbrokers, too, which makes it that much worse. He could have had the decency to claim an injury.

  3. Jrod says:

Q, I’m not bagging the IPL, I am bagging Dhoni. Kym, Scott Styris pulled out of test cricket to keep playing one dayers, and kiwis think he did so to audition for the IPL.

  4. Q says:

Yeah I know, I sort of drifted there… Im just wondering now – Dhoni is a must for the ODI side. His performance in tests isn’t the same. What if Karthik and/or Patel come out with stunning performances, what happens then?More dangers to the harmony i pointed out..

  5. Rusty says:

Perhaps Dhoni isn’t up to the demands of Test Cricket (good technique, too long, too physically and mentally demanding) and doesn’t want to be shown up. More likely, it’s not sexy enough for him.

  6. Jrod says:

Test cricket is sexy as hell.

  7. Rusty says:

yes, jrod, you and I know that, but not everybody is so enlightened.

i think the below could be better reason……..Dhoni see captaining India in one day cricket as more important than playing test match cricket……..

I know I am in the minority here .. but I am ok that Dhoni decided to rest. The BCCI makes Indian players play in too many tournaments anyway. And that too in more than 40 degree temps. http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/kitplycup/content/story/342305.htmlHe could’ve pulled out of the ODIs but since he is the captain he probably decided to stay back. Though it means less viewing pleasure for me.. I am glad he is taking a break

Time to say: I told you so. Why bother playing five hard days? Why not just pick up some easy cash in the IPL?
