Would have been interesting had Bangalore or the Knightriders made the superleague 2020 dlf champions maximum citi moment of 2020 cup.
As Cameron White, David Hussey and Brad Hodge had already vowed to each other that no matter what happened, Victorian came first.
Lalit Modi has said unequivocally that the IPL comes first, second and third in this league.
But he, or someone in the IPL, fucked up, they have no contracts that say their international players must play for them in such a super champion league thingy.
Modi can stomp his foot, get caught smoking, abduct someone, or pay Terry Jenner to commit fraud, but some players are loyal.
Cameron White would have been an interesting test case, the boy bleeds navy blue.
Now Mike Hussey and Baby face Morkel will be the test cases.
Don’t know much about Albie, so I can’t comment on what he will do.
But Michael Hussey is a people pleaser, so he will be torn.
Best case for him is if the Superkings want him, which you would think they will, they give the Warriors a high end 6 figure sum.
Then the King Probot would be able to play for the team with all the 0’s on the end, and still look after his home state.
Unlike Victoria, the Warriors can cover the loss of Hussey.
Marsh and Pomersbach proved themselves in India.
Ronchi never quite did, but trust me, when the boy is on song, you’ll be singing with him.
Adam Voges and Theo Paul Doropoulos are more than handy down the list.
But if for the first time ever, your state team, the one that groomed you, were to play on an International stage, wouldn’t you want to be with them?
Not watching Dhoni in front of the mirror.
Good to see you getting so excited about 2020 cricket all of a sudden Jrod.
I’ve always been excited by the Victorian angle of 2020.
They just trying to make Cricket like Football…But that doesn’t make sense given that Aussie/SA/Eng are actually regional sides and do not involve any other internationals. If it was a free for all international premier league modis argument may sound ok.Internation Cricket is the be all end all for most us.
Trust Modi to hatch even a bigger conspiracy and make seemingly impossible things possible. I think he would find a way to allow players with double loyalty to play for both sides. Whatever it may mean, something interesting is definitely on cards.
Modi puts his foot down – while he puts his finger up
I would like it if this issue could be settled through a bidding war.Have another auction for the players who have more than 1 team in the champions league. That would be interesting. It would show how badly the teams want certain players.Or maybe it will show who has the more money.Either way… a good way to solve things.Albie Morkel has already laid the seeds to up his price if something like this ever happens. Super Kings and the titans are already there and now he’s saying he wants to help Durham get there too.Which one do u wanna play for Albie?
Q, that is a horrible idea, as if a domestic team in South Africa or Australia could compete financially with a county side or a IPL side.
Its a risk vs return type scenario for the teams Uncle J.I believe the winners of the champions league will get $5 million. Now if Victoria or the Warriors feel that Cameron White and Hussey respectively can get them to that $5million, then they would be ready to invest a million or 2 in them by outbidding the Indians and the counties. They can always raise debt to finance the player’s acquisition and if they win it will turn out to be a good investment. If it turns out bad, well touch luck.:-)
It’s not risk and reward Q, they simply don’t have the money. And why should they miss out on the player that they groomed, so some overstuffed Indian billionaire can laugh at his gentlemans club after the final.
But they’ll have the money if they win the Champions League.I agree with your point regarding grooming and all… just for that they should be playing for their home state rather than the IPL.I suggested the auction as an alternative to the IPL team paying the Australian state for using their player if they want to. The auction is a better option than that cos u never know maybe the Warriors will dish out that million for hussey.
Where is the ludicrous idea that county sides have money? The only one’s who go beyond breaking even, are the test match venues, and they only do that because of massive ECB subsidies. most of the counties run at a loss every year.
Q, there’s no cash here, here there’s no cash. Cash NO. Suave, yet they can afford all those international and Kolpak players.
Well then that sux Uncle J. Then I guess Modi’s offer for hefty cash amount for use of their players will go down well with them.
Kolpaks are cheap in comparison to most of the ageing ex The England players, and they only have one overseas player per team now.THey get millions from the ECB which allows them to break even, and purchase an overseas player.
Kolpaks aren’t that cheap, they cost about as much as the top paid domestic players in Australia, and some teams have 5 of them, plus an international and an Andy Caddick type player. I would say county teams have 3 times the cash avail that state teams have.
Every day this week Modi has done something else to look like a prize twat.So not only is this farcical competition purely about money, but ther’re trying to make profit merely from deciding who plays where in the first place.Things seem to be really falling apart at the moment. I bet just about all of the counties would love to tell the Modi and this ICC puppetry where to go if it wasn’t for the potential profit for their players.
“…there’s no cash here, here there’s no cash. Cash NO.”That is my all time favourite movie quote. Pure genius and well done to you as well UJ for the mention. As if who has the most money makes any difference, I mean look at the original auction – how much for Kallis/Ganguly/other boring test goats.Obviously whoever Shane plays for will win.
Did, thanks champ. One thing I do want to see is White captaining against Warne.
Ohhh.. I haven’t seen White captain but I’ve heard a lot. Either way Warne vs Victoria will be huge! One thing though.. had the Daredevils qualified, who would Greg Shipperd have coached?
I asked myself that too Q, not sure.
