The IPL has had a second auction.
Now each team has 48 international players, but only a maximum of 4 can play at any one time.
I have no idea what the hell is going on, but I did notice that a couple of Australian domestic cricketers got scooped up.
Luke Pomersbach, the man who played for Australia when Brad Hogde couldn’t put his pants on, got selected for 50,000 cheesels.
That is a bargain buy.
This boy hits the ball like its some punk who stole his girl.
Ofcourse he will need to be kept away from the bar.
Brett Geeves from Tasmania was also selected. He is one of my favourite cricketers at the moment. Can bowl mid to high 140’s, swings from the hip with the bat and also quite god with a quip when miked up.
Although does have a very odd hair cut.
He also was a great price at 50,000 as well.
Shane Watson went for 125,000 clams, which I assume is to be a team mascot, he will be shown naked and lubed up for the ladies of India (and some men) to admire.
If the IPL are still looking for players I think there are a couple that could be worth the 50,000 pesos they are throwing around.
Dan Christian from South Australia. Bowls at about 140, but is a batsmen. Can hit a long ball, and generally bats like his house is burning down.
Adam Crosthwaite/Andrew McDonald from Victoria, both big hitters, who can keep and bowl at a high respectively. Plus Adam is willing to claim anything that may look like a catch. Downside, Andrew has red hair.
Brendan Drew from Tasmania is one hell of a quick bowler, who if i remember correctly had Sri Lanka in all sorts of trouble. Bowls quick and straight, and whilst not a batsmen, can hit long and hard.
Luke Ronchi and Theo Doropolous are both big hitting young dudes from Wa. Ronchi has the added advantage of being a pretty good keep, Theo has the added advantage of a cool greek name.
Welcome to Australia where every cricketer is a bargain.
In related news, everyone’s favourite warrior scientist, Napolean Einstein signs up with the Chennai SuperKings
Apart from India, which is obvious, Australia is the only place from where IPL teams have signed up retired cricketers, domestic players, and those not in favour of national selection anymore.Warne, McGrath, Watson, White, David Hussey, Pomersbach, Greeves, etc.Wonder what the CA and BCCI have cooking.
As much as I hate to admit it, Australia definetly has the best pool of first-class cricketers.. What the rest of the world call testicles, Aussies call it hockey ball and cricket ball..
Yeah i saw the napolean thing as well, was sposed to go in this post, but i think i fell asleep on the post button.
Pontings baldspot (interesting name) – I agree with that. Definitely Australia has the best first class structure in place and thus the best first class cricketers in their ranks. What amazed me was that some of these Aussie first class cricketers earned more than their international counterparts.Although the ones signed on yesterday – Pomersbach and Geeves got only 50K. They are unknown in the international world. Well at least Geeves is. I had heard of Pomersbach because of his infamous suspension and call up from the parking lot to play a T20I, but Geeves I hadn’t heard of at all. This is also means that the IPL franchises have an eye on good domestic cricketers in Australia and if they keep the same eye on domestic cricketers around the world, cricketers could be in for a field day.
hey q (nice blog btw), the irregularity in the salaries is probably due to the scheduling concerns.. The first auction was held when the Pakistan tour was on, so the owners rightly invested in someone like David Hussey who would have surely played the entire tourney rather than Michael Hussey who is an Aussie test team regular…. Yousuf has nobody but himself to blame what with his two-timing ICL and all.. about my screenname- I could swear that Ricky Ponting was balding a few years back but he seems to have a nice crop of hair on his head these days..
I remember Ponting’s baldspot as well. It was quite visible.I understand why someone like David Hussey or Cameron White got more than the Aussie internationals who would have been touring at the time of the IPL, but both these domestic cricketers also earned more than other international players who would have been available for the entire competition. It really is difficult to understand what went behind these valuations.
Not a whole lot of money left in the salary cap when Misbah was up for grabs. Anyway dont see how they benefit from signing so many non-Indian players since they are allowed to play only 4 of them..
thats true PB, but hopes got 300K and even Ashwell Prince got 175K…I believe Misbah would have been more valuable than both in T20..Either way, ur right again abt the 4 players per team – so either the teams are safeguarding them against unavailability of some international players and / or making sure they have ample brand ambassadors… only 4 can play a match but all 8-10 int’l cricketers could come together in ad or some sort of marketing campaign. The contracts state that the cricketers have to make themselves available for a certain number of hours during the 44 days for marketing purposes.
