Mark Waugh and Allan Border are both heroes of mine, but if they think calling a dark skinned brother a monkey ain’t racism, then they are fucking idiots.
Are these two serious?
No doubt crowds always try and get reactions from players, but once you use his race into it you’re a tosser who should be banned from all cricket grounds for life.
I believe I had this argument with an Australian at the G many years ago, when he made a racist remark about Makaya Ntini being a monkey. I said dude, if your gonna sledge him make it about the fact he bowls too much short shit, or the fact he was given a 6 year rape sentence and then the judge decided on appeal that there was holes in the case.
Racism has no place in sport, it should remain the punch line for ethic minority comedians the world over.
No matter how much you wanna bag someone for their race there is always a better way of doing it. Let me give examples.
Mony Panesar, don’t bag him cause he’s an Indian playing for England, bag him for his general dorkiness.
Don’t bag Symonds for being a monkey, bag him about his white lipstick.
Herschelle Gibbs, don’t bag him cause he’s coloured, bag him cause he is a massive tool.
See, these things are more fun anyway.
As for Mark and Allan, thanks again for reminding everyone that white Australian cricketers are complete dick heads when it comes to race.
Dean Jones anyone?
Couldn’t agree more.
Well said.
you got it all wrong mate!!however disgusting the incident was it was surely not coz of his color and thats a fact…its was only coz since the arrival his was continuous in the prints for non cricketing reasons got big for his own mouth and they wanted to give it back…i am also sure of the fact that not many peoples (and i mean it) knows about the color of symonds everyboday sees him as ovet the top to big for his own mouth type of guy…and i know many people will agree with it…i am in noway justifying the act but the reason why he was gestured…there was no racism involved…please don’t try to color it…
Then straight point, why didnt they make monkey noises for white players? Weren’t Hayden and Ponting just as big mouthed? And since when does making monkey chants have anything to do with having a big mouth? That doesnt make any sense at all.
What’s a monkey chant, again? Define it.What were the exact words of the alleged spectators? The media creates issues to fill in pages all the time. Don’t get carried away gentlemen. Six, who doesn’t believe things easilyOh, and come to think of it, even if he was called monkey, how is that racist?Oh, and another thought: Going by his looks and his wide-wide mouth, I wouldn’t be surprised if people started comparing him to the Indian monkey god Hanuman.
JRod: Where did MW and AB make these comments?
Samir, mark waugh said his on foxtel, and i think ab might have been the same. Six, give me a break, monkey is a well known racist remark for black people. Symonds obviously doesn’t think its nothing. And i’ve never heard him complain directly about crowds before.
Uncle J, to be quite honest, I did not know Symonds was black until this happened. I remeber being quite taken aback when I heard Lewis Hamilton was black, and Herschelle Gibbs too.. Now, if I had no clue, I am certain a lot of my countrymen and women didn’t either. But the point remains that he was made fun of, on account of his appearance, and that is wrong. It may not be racist, but it is still wrong. I remember at a Test match in Bangalore when Danish Kaeria was fielding at fine-leg, when lots of people in my stand would start chanting, “Ugly! Ugly!”.. The monkey chants fall into this same reprehensible category. We lost that Test. Thanks mainly to spineless Indian batting and Kaneria.
John, you didn’t know he was black, are you serious? even if the Indians didnt know the first time it was a racist chant, they certainly did by the 4th or 5th game, and that didnt stop them doing it.
oh my, i certainly didn’t know the deal with monkey chants and like john, i didn’t think roy was black.
You guys crack me up.
I thought he was Aboriginal (sp?). That’s different from “Black”.
No he’s west indian. Jamicia i think. Was born in england though i think, or he was adopted by english parents.
Just read about that a couple of days back. Honest.
